AUTHORS The Worldview Press is presently seeking authors for its Cultures in the Classroom. Two types of writers are sought. First, we are looking for authors who have had substantial intimate experience living in a non-US culture. We are seeking authors whose experience includes both observation and direct daily participation in the culture they wish to write about. Anthropologists who have had several years experience studying and living within the culture they wish to write about are prime candidates but other writers who have had "substantial intimate experience" living and working in another culture, are thoroughly knowledgeable about the culture, adept with the local language, familiar with anthropological concepts of "culture" and sensitive to problems of cultural representation (either as "insiders" or "outsiders") are welcome to contact us.*
The second type of author The Worldview Press is looking for is talented and experienced authors who may have less direct experience with living in a non-US culture but would be interested in and excited about collaborating on a book project with an anthropologist or other such "culturally-knowledgeable" person (including actual members of the culture being written about) who, for all their expertise and knowledge may lack the necessary skills for writing fiction or writing for younger audiences. If either of these options are consonant with your interests and professional experience please read the Author's Guide for the Cultures in the Classroom series which can be found by visiting our Writer's Resources page.
ILLUSTRATORS The Worldview Press is seeking illustrators who specialize in culturally-specific styles of art and illustration. Artwork for the Cultures in the Classroom will be representative of and consistent with the modes, motifs and styles found in the cultures being written about. Artistic and realistic (or quasi-realistic) illustration is preferred over cute cartoonish styles. This is not to say we are seeking dour artwork, lively and whimsical styles are desirable as long as the illustrations don't verge on the saccharine. Further information about Cultures in the Classroom illustration necessities can be obtained by reading the online Author's Guide which can be found by visiting our Writer's Resources page.
Interested authors and illustrators should write to The Worldview Press at one of the addresses listed on the Contact Us page after they have read the Author's Guide.

* Please note: In general, The Worldview Press does not seek submissions from tourists, missionaries, peripatetic travel writers, "innocents abroad," enclaved expats, or romanticizing or exoticizing aficionados of particular cultures. Authors who write from these perspectives can write interesting and valuable works of which there are many fine examples, but The Worldview Press specifically seeks writers who are more anthropologically inclined in their perspective, training and experience.
